If you enjoy taking or looking at photos of any type then the latest digital photo frames are perfect for displaying your photographs at their best. The quality of image that is now possible with these electronic photo display devices is very impressive.

Before making your purchase or selecting your final choice you should look closely at the minimum spec for your new photo frame and choose wisely.

You Really Need To Get a High Resolution Frame!

To get a clear, crisp and brightly lit image to show your photos at their best you must look closely at the resolution of the display screen that the photo frame uses. Digital picture frames use a Liquid Crystal Display. These are just like those used in flat panel televisions, but on a smaller scale.

So if the digital frame you are considering does not have good resolution ignore it. Screen Resolution makes such a big difference to the quality of the image that you need to get this right.

A range of resolutions are available today and you must make sure you get a resolution of 640x480 or above to get a good image. A 800x600 resolution would be even better, but more expensive. Do not buy a frame with a resolution below this minimum as you will be disappointed with the results.

For LCD photo displays that are bigger than say 9 inches you should consider trying to get the highest resolution that your bank balance can accommodate. A higher resolution will always give you a better quality image. Any frame that seems cheap more than likley has a low resolution so make sure you look at the specs.

Aspect Ratio is also Important.

Two aspect ratios that describe the shape of you image are available for digital photo frames and these are 4:3 and 15:9, with the 4:3 being the ratio for most images taken with todays point and shoot digital cameras.

Because most photo images from digital cameras are in 4:3 format this is the best ratio for displaying your photos as they were taken. A digital frame using 15:9 will have more impact with a cinema-like image as on a widescreen TV.

Unfortunately if you display 4:3 images on a 15:9 digital screen then the top and bottom of the image will be chopped of to make it fit, which you might not like..

Get the Right Memory Card Slot.

If possible get a digital photo frame with a multiple card reader slot so that you can use your existing memory card and also your friends. If only one card reader slot is provided then you will need to make sure that it is the same as that used in your digital camera.

Get a USB Port if you need one.

If you want to transfer photos or other images directly from your personal computer or digital camera using a standard USB cable then the photo frame must have a USB slot. This is important for some people, but if you are happy just using memory cards then you will not need this option.

Additional Options to Consider.

There are many other options now available for the digital photo frame, such as wi-fi connectivity to download images from the web, speakers, headphones, remote controls, alarm clocks and many more. These are selected by personal choice and of course you should expect to pay more if they are what you want.

Use the recommendations made to you above to get a great deal on a good quality digital photo frame, which will display the sharpest images for what you can afford, and just ignore the company labels as these should not be relevant when making your choice.
