Poker Strategies - Multi-Tabling

By: Sam Whittaker

Multi-tabling is when you play at more than one table at the same time. Each poker site has it's own specialised software which allows you to have many tables on screen at once. Setting the table layout on screen is as simple as maneuvering for example, four screens and giving each a quarter, also being able to enlarge the table you are in the middle of playing can be advantageous.

As online poker is played generally in the home, distractions which can occur from this are a cause for concern with regards to the focus, according to some players. With multi-tabling negates this somewhat as the more tables you have open, the more you are likely to stay focused.

Choosing the correct table to play on is a significant aspect of online poker, decisions must be made wisely. When playing poker to earn a living, table selection becomes even more important. Finding the tables with the weakest players is the best option as you would be able to impose your game relatively easily.

More poker tables means the action is coming fast and furious. Unfortunately when playing too many tables, many decisions that really are not tough will appear to be because you have little or no knowledge of your opponents. Poker is a game of observation, even though there is less to observe online than in live games, there is a chance you could miss vital information about an opponent while you are involved at another table.

Starting off with four tables from the start is ill advised, you are much better to start with two tand work your way up. Always being careful to make sure you are profitable at the current number of tables, before moving up to even more. Playing alternate poker game types at the same time is not a good idea, for example, playing Hold'em and Omaha together, although if you are certain you can handle this and have become adept at multi-tabling, then there is no reason not to.

Adjusting how you use your bankroll and the type of poker you play is advised when playing this way. Although a smaller profit will be made, using the same strategy at each low limit table for instance, can yield easy results, especially by the expert players.

Multi-tabling for limit poker is not as difficult, although some players can play a large amount of tables at once in no-limit poker also. Playing a tight, yet pro-active style is advised. With the decision making rather easy, limit poker is the most effortless and quick to multi-table.
